Because it's worse than you think

Old Judge

Welcome:  I'm Ty Clevenger, a Texas attorney who lives in New York, and DirtyRottenJudges.com is a brief introduction to the seamy underside of the federal judiciary. I'm writing Liars and Horse Thieves: A book about lawyers and judges, and three particularly bad judges are highlighted below.  If you are a lawyer, clerk or courthouse employee with a tip, send it my way. I want to do more than complain about my own experiences -- I want to change the system.

Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr.

Judge Walter Smith

According to the testimony of a former deputy clerk, U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr. of Waco forcibly groped her in his private chambers, apparently while he was drunk. She further testified that the incident was covered up by the then-chief district judge for the Western District of Texas. The former clerk named several corroborating witnesses in her deposition, and her story was confirmed by her ex-husband.  READ MORE...

UPDATE:  Judge Smith was reprimanded by the Fifth Circuit Judicial Council on December 4, 2015, I appealed the lenient punishment and requested impeachment on January 18, 2016, and I requested an FBI investigation on February 17, 2016 based on new evidence that Judge Smith illegally accepted free legal services from an attorney who had cases pending in front of the judge.

Judge Ellen S. Huvelle

Judge Ellen Huvelle

In 2012, U.S. District Judge Ellen S. Huvelle of Washington D.C. knowingly assigned herself to a case that implicated her in a felony, then dismissed the case and sanctioned the attorney who filed it (i.e., me) $123,802.17
in retaliation.  Recently obtained evidence indicates that she was communicating ex parte with the attorneys for the other side, and possibly with a witness.  The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit affirmed her decision without explanation.  READ MORE...

Judge Frank Montalvo
Judge Frank Montalvo

After communicating ex parte with a witness, U.S. District Judge Frank Montalvo ordered a Youtube video removed from the Internet without a hearing or any notice to the responding party.  He also sealed a letter that he had received from the witness, refusing to allow the responding party to see the "evidence" against her. Another judge reversed the gag order, but the Judicial Council of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit swept the incident under the rug. READ MORE...

Congress: Wake up and pay attention

Squirrel!

Judicial reform may not be as sexy as Obamacare, immigration, or the IRS scandal, but it's every bit as important. And it is not a Republican vs. Democrat or left vs. right issue, but a matter of public integrity.  Congress, and particularly the House of Representatives, has abdicated its Constitutional duty to oversee the judiciary, instead allowing councils of judges to police each other. That needs to change. READ MORE...
